ACTUALITE ORCADE NEWS

From 14 to 21 May ORCADE is organizing a campaign with communities affected by mining in Essakane and Poura, Burkina Faso. The communities hope to deliver a petition to the authorities at the end of a procession. In Poura, the network RECADE hopes to mobilise about 2000 signatures while in Essakane Allah Wallou hopes to mobilize 5000 signatures. These events mark the end of a 10-month capacity building and advocacy programme for two communities affected by industrial gold mining in Burkina Faso. This 10-month project which ends on May 31, 2007 is financed by Oxfam America, ORCADE's technical and financial partner since 2005.

The events during this week of campaign include:

- Procession & deliverance of a petition to the authorities followed by a conference debate: Essakane and Poura

- Radio call in programme (Horizon FM)

- TV debate programme (Canal 3)

- Conference debate where all stakeholders (7) have representatives on the panel

- Launching of a national coalition on mining
